The Task
Our client, the American company Gourmet Food Imports, specializes in finding Balkan foods and placing them on the US market. Our task was to create a packaging design for a metal can of Picnic Cheese, bearing the Country Road trademark. We had already completed a similar project.

Canned cylindrical pieces of feta cheese are known as "picnic cheese" or "Danish-style cheese" in the US. Our client requested an illustration of a Danish farm, drawing on the popular name.

The Solution
We analyzed similar packaging designs and finally decided on a style reminiscent of a colorful engraving, so that our design would differ from the rest. We added more depth to the same end by defining three ground planes.

The cows were foregrounded, as it was most important to show that the product came from cow milk. The middle ground became the center of the story we wanted to tell - there you could see the farm and cowherd. Our experience has taught us that a specific character attracts more attention than just the scenery without one. This is the reason we chose to include the cowherd and put him in the middle along with the Danish farm that went hand in hand with the product name. We left the scenery in the background - it points to the natural, organic nature of the product and gives the illustration an overall air of tranquility.

The Result
This is how all parts of the finished work contribute to telling a story; as a result, customers remember the design as "the packaging with the cowherd".
