The Task
Happy Kids is a line of inexpensive children's salty treats comprising several tastes. Our task was to design the packaging for all tastes and the trademark. The client didn't have any particular requests so they let us make suggestions about the style and overall design. The brand name, Happy Kids, provided a very specific framework to work in.
The biggest challenge when considering a possible design was the large amount of similar competing products on the market. Therefore, we chose to draw characters as a way to distinguish these products from others and attract prospective buyers' attention.

The Solution

As the products are meant for children, we made the image more relatable by drawing city kids, putting them in dynamic poses, and making them show a lot of emotion. In order to avoid a clear gender distinction, we drew both a boy and a girl. We made emotion the main focus of the packaging, as the taste characteristics of these products are sufficiently well-known. This is a typical approach to designing packaging for a widely-spread type of product. 
We created illustrations showing each taste, found a visible area for them, and drew a further distinction by choosing a different color for each package in the series.
